Perhaps it was blood, or simply a similar upbringing, that eventually led to the coming
together of aesthetics.
KX2 is a collaboration between sisters Ruth Avra and Dana Lynn Kleinman. Our pieces
are a combination of metalwork and painting. The metal is cut and the surface is worked
to create unique textures, while still keeping a sleek appearance. Through the cut areas,
the viewer can see the paintings. The paintings are oil on raw canvas, adding an
unexpected additional texture and color to the overall look of the work.
Whether arranged in group installations or solo pieces, each work involves a sense of
rhythm and mathematics. Not only does this reflect nature in its patterns, but it also ties
us together as sisters, undeniably influenced by a mathematician father and a scientist
mother. Multiple panel pieces may reference equations, but at the same time talk
about boundaries, with patterns and colors tying the separate pieces together.
We work through these ideas of connection, be it family or personal connection, the
connection of two seemingly separate disciplines, and representative of the connection
of all living things. And, of course, the beauty of this connection.
