julie gross

about the artist

Canadian-born Julie Gross has studied, lived and worked in New York City much of her adult life.  Her paintings contrast rhythmic color and form fields in sinuous ‘s’ curves based on sine waves.  Emphasizing the visual tension between flow and stasis, her seemingly flat, colorful surfaces are precise and compelling.  Gross has taught for more than three decades at major art institutions, including the Parsons School of Design, the Fashion Institute of Technology, the Rhode Island School of Design and Middlebury College.  She has also been the recipient of major art grants and residencies that include a Pollack/Krasner Foundation Grant and residencies or fellowships at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the BAU Institute in Otranto Italy, and the Ucross Foundation, Clearmont, Wyoming.
